Wrexham, often described as the 'capital of North Wales', has grown over the years from a small market town into a major shopping centre which blends small shops, covered markets and arcades with modern high street stores and offices. Almost all the major retailers are to be found in the town, together with the high street banks, two railway stations and a bus station.

Wrexham's importance as a market town dates from the 16th century, whilst the area was at the forefront of the industrial revolution two hunded years later. Throughout all the changes, the Wrexham skyline has been dominated since 1520 by the tower of St Giles' Church, one of the 'Seven Wonders of Wales'.

Modern day Wrexham boasts a number of major investments, including several town centre retail developments, Waterworld (a new swimming complex), Wrexham County Borough Museum, a new Yale College campus, technology park, major regional hospital and Further Education College.
