Dolbadarn Castle stands between Caernarfon and Snowdonia above Llyn Padarn and was built in the 13th Century predating the English fortresses of the Edwardian conquest. The main feature is the round tower enclosing a complex series of chambers. |
|
The
castle did not die with Llywelyn the Great in 1240 but was used by the
Welsh Princes during the struggle for control of North Wales. In 1282 the
castle was seized by the English army only to be abandoned within 2 years.
It
is thought that the last use for the castle was by Owain Glyndwr as a prison
for important prisoners during the Welsh uprising around 1400. |
