Historic Details
Return to Previous pagePrevious page
Criccieth Castle stands on its headland between two beaches. The core of the castle was built by Llywelyn the Great probably between 1230 and 1240, but the castle was captured by Edward 1st in 1283 who consequently refortified the castle to keep the Welsh at bay. Its fate was finally sealed in 1404 when the Welsh leader Owain Glyndwr captured and burnt the castle.
